I did mention 2 designs, didn’t I?
Introducing the Twisted Diagonals Jacket!
Pattern: Twisted Diagonals Jacket
Yarn: Three Irish Girls Lindon Merino
Colorway: Estuary (available from various Three Irish Girls retailers)
Like with Diamond in the Sky, this pattern was designed to be knit with variegated yarns–the traveling twisted stitch pattern, which creates the diagonal lines, helps to break up pooling. Since this was a design for Three Irish Girls yarn, with the number of gorgeous variegated colorways Sharon produces, I knew that would be important. Also, like Diamond in the Sky, this is intended to be a quick and easy pattern to knit, with very minimal finishing. There are no seams to sew or stitches to pick up–just weave in ends and sew on the buttons.
Twisted Diagonals Jacket was inspired largely by the yarn. When I first touched Lindon Merino, I wasn’t sure it was a yarn for me, but once I started knitting it I fell in love with it. It’s got a slightly more rustic feel and has its own texture, but it softened nicely with knitting (and more with blocking) for a very nice feel. And it makes a very warm and sturdy fabric, so I knew it would be perfect as a heavier weight cardigan or jacket for those blustery late fall days. This is the design that I was talking about in my Birth of a Design series, which hasn’t finished yet even though the pattern has been released.
The jacket pattern is written for sizes 6 months, 12 months, and child’s sizes 2-12, and is available for download for US$4.95.
